According to market research the fitness, lifestyle boom is continuing to grow with the fashion search engine List reporting that leggings are currently one of its most searched for items worldwide, registering a staggering 430,000 searches a month!
Gym wear now must cross over into fashion as it uses cross over into our daily lives. The increased demand is a direct result of more people incorporating fitness into their daily routines and, more now than ever, wanting to make a style statement whilst doing so, according to Vanessa Spence the design director at Asos.
Whether getting a coffee before a class or relaxing after a run, even walking the dog, gym wear must reflect customers personalities and more importantly be fashionable in order to do so.
This season, catwalk giants are getting in on the trend. Gucci, Balenciaga and Dolce & Gabbana are reintroducing stirrup leggings to the wardrobe vocabulary, while Richard Quinn, Marine Serre and Burberry’s styles come with attached feet liken to tights.
